A NEW GREENVILLE ATTRACTION: WESTEND MOVIES ... what a cool concept!

We decided to check out a new Greenville attraction: Westend Movies on S. Main Street. I was really impressed. (And how cool was it that we were the first customers? lol)

Above is Sugar Daddy & The Barbarian chillaxin'.

I think it is a great concept; and can definitely imagine it becoming a Greenville institution. The venue itself is simple & pleasing... a few pub tables with stools and rows of nice folding canvas chairs. And they don't mind if you move'em around... giving you plenty of leg room! The movie screen is hung on a brick wall; speakers mounted overhead. I would call it an unabashedly urban setting.

The plan is to screen classic and independent movies. They are planning on several series of movies... the one most interesting to me is the Bollywood movies (the only time that I have seen one in a theater, we had to drive to Atlanta!) But there will be classic westerns, comedies & sci-fi \ horror flicks coming up soon!

The tickets were $3 apiece (as I believe most of the flicks will be); although some of the other movies may cost a little more (like the Bollywood flicks)... wow! an affordable night out!

Tonight's flick was STAGECOACH w\ John Wayne...plus Superman cartoons & a charming newsreel featuring GM's 50 millionth car!

The concessions are simple but adequate: normal-sized bags of popcorn, bottled and canned drinks & bags of candies (i remember m & m's {plain & peanut} and skittles... may have been others)... and here is a novel idea for a movie... REASONABLY PRICED -- nothing over $2.

Picture above is owners (so nice to have met The Fowlers!) and snazzily- attired usher greeting and serving movie-goers. The Fowlers have an accent that they blamed on their having been in Atlanta... but I am from that area... and I can assure you, my accent is NOTHING like that... LOL!

Here is a close-up of our lovely attendant! (I am so sorry, I didn't get her name! Please forgive)
I just love that uniform!

shhhhhhhh.... here is a screenshot of the movie... just to show you what it's like!

another shot... showing the set-up.

The only down-side is that Mr. Jubal had to stay at home... although he dearly loves to go to the movies...lol.

I think that this business will definitely add to the fabric of Greenville. And I hope to see y'all there in the future... maybe even this weekend... they are showing STREETFIGHTER w/ Sonny Chiba! Awwwwwww... Kung Fu!

edited to add: i forgot to mention, bring cash... at this time, westend movies doesn't take credit cards... although you can order tix online on the website ( www.westendmovies.com ) via paypal.

Sugar Daddy: McGyver-ing for the LOLZ

My Father-in- Law asked us to bring his electric razor to him at the hospital. Sugar Daddy attached a regular razor to an extension cord with duct tape... we all got a big laugh out of it.

Dad liked it so much... he keeps it at the hospital to show.

Here's Your Sign: Temple GA

While in Temple, Ga this past weekend, we noticed this sign in the window of a salvage grocery store on the main street of the city.

Wonder if it discourages anyone...

Food Pr0n & a Reminder

Leaving the hospital in Rome, GA, we discovered another one of those "hole-in-the-wall" places we love! Although no one spoke much English, we didn't have too much trouble ordering. .. and the food was delicious!

Next is a snap of Monday's lunch, with Sugar Daddy, @ Saffron Indian Restaurant.

And lastly, when I went to Bi-Lo to pick up some items for supper, I noticex that asparagus was on sale for 99 cents\lb. The little thin tender kind... well that changed all of my plans! We ended up having grilled porkchops, grilled asparagus & roasted green peas w\portabellos, mixed vegs & cheese... yummy.

Oh...and saw the sign-up info for thr CAB grill-off. Its going to be part of the Freedom Aloft Weekend in Simpsonville... looks like its gonna be a lot of fun... bigger & better!!!

I made a beret in a day... No more rhymes I mean it... Anybody want a peanut?

Sitting around the hospital while visiting with my father-in-law (who is making progress after suffering 2 strokes), I have a lot of nervous energy and so started bringing crochet projects with me.

Here is another beret... this one for Ms. S. It is an alpaca/acrylic blend (bernat, i think) that feels so so soft!

Kids say the funniest things:

she took it home and tried it on... one of her sons said that she looked like a fancy lady in it. the other son asked her where she was going... she asked him where it looked like that she was going... and he said "the beach"...

she told me that she would rather be a fancy lady! lol

Follow Up: First Craft of Spring Public Art Project

As we were driving back into Greenville after being in Georgia all weekend, we went down Main St. to see how the daffodils fared. I had received several emails\twitters about them over the weekend... so I was curious.

Someone had plucked the daffodil at the Sterling Highschool monument! So cool... I hope it brings much joy to its new owner!! I just love that concept!

The daffodil at Mr. Poinsett's monument was still there ... we could tell that it had been touched and examined... and it was still in the statue's lap where someone had placed it! It looked so cheerful and I hope that it made at least someone smile. I went ahead & brought it home... but frankly I would have been just as pleased if someone had taken it home... that would have been cool.

This project was lots of fun & I plan on some other projects in the future.

Dont forget to check out the other participants @ www.firstcraftofspring.blogspot.com

SOMEBODY MOVED THE FLOWER... LOL

Wanting to see the flowers in daylight, Sugar Daddy & I (along with Ms. S & the Barbarian) drove by. .. and someone had moved the flowerpot into the statue's lap. .. too funny!

Anyway just thought I would post some daylight pics!

FIRST CRAFT OF SPRING: Greenville SC (Main St)

I ended up making 2 daffodils for The First Craft of Spring ( www.firstcraftofspring.blogspot.com or www.boozeandyarn.com ) public art project. Choosing the quote for the project was easy... "Be the change you want to see in the world ... Ghandi", has always been a favorite of mine. It puts the power of change on the individual... you don't have to wait for change to come... YOU can be the change!

I "planted" both of my daffodils in downtown Greenville on Main St., figuring that would be the area in which they had the most impact. Sugar Daddy helped me "plant" these at around 1 am; it was a little more difficult than I had imagined... lots of people (and policemen!) are still out and about downtown at that time. It was really hard being inconspicuous!

I chose the statue of Joel Poinsett , who was a physician, botanist and American statesman, as the spot for the daffodil in the pot cozy... it is right downtown, close to city hall. I think it will have good visibility there.

And then I chose the statue representing Sterling High School, which was South Carolina's first public black high school.

My hope for participating in this project is to highlight some Greenville history; and to inspire change... change that starts at an individual level -- but will end up impacting the world.

BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD

FO ALERT: Daffodil for First Craft of Spring

I decided to add a little "oomph" to one of my daffodils for the art project at www.firstcraftofspring.blogspot.com by crocheting a "pot cosy" and planting my daffodil in it.

The ever helpful Sugar Daddy made a stake to secure the stem from a wire coat hanger.

all i have to do is make the tag for this daffodil.

i have one other daffodil to "plant" downtown; but hope to make at least one more for a total of 3.

are you making daffodils for this collaborative art project? if so, are you in the Upstate? or somewhere else? i would love to see your daffodils!
